Watch Batman Beyond for crotchety Bruce Wayne. If for nothing else, watch it for him because it’s AMAZING.

This is even better when you learn that in several iterations Batman fractured his own subconscious, creating several distinct personalities: Bruce Wayne, billionaire playboy philanthropist, Batman, bad ass crime-fighting vigilante, and a special personality specifically intended to fight off intruders and his own nightmares. Among others we never get to see.

That’s right ladies and gentleman: Batman’s nightmares are so bad he psychologically wounds himself so that he can fight them off.
