The next chapter. This one might be a bit rougher, but I just kinda had to get it done. I’m also experimenting with more archaic speech patterns, but I’m not sure how well it worked. Let me know your thoughts or any errors you see.
(Okay I give up, no matter how many times and forms I’ve tried to export it, youtube streched this goshdarned video, - even though I managed that all of my players on my laptop don’t. :T)
Anyways, this is the result of last week. I was kind of having a hard time to put my ass back to animate, so every day, I added a little piece for this audio. I would love to add decent animation and lipsync for this, but it depends hella a lot about other external factors - such as freetime, for example. Apparently, it looks more like an animatic than a real animation, but I hope it’s still enjoyable for you guys!

Well, if you look at it, a lot of the comic has been deconstructing the differences between trolls and humans. From the fact that they communicate in the same language to the whole “orange creamsicle” debacle, its rather evident that humans and trolls have a whole hell of a lot alike, even our sexualities! If it weren’t for the psionics (which could be because of the troll’s longer span of existence) and the hemocaste (which means a whole let less than people think it does and is at least partially, probably mostly, due to societal constraints) then we could very well be palette switches with intermittent horns.
Now, one would think that our romance would therefore be totally the same, but they aren’t. But, I would suspect that the main reason for this has to do not with our emotions, but with our cultures. You see, when Andrew Hussie said that our romance only dealt with one type of emotion, he was not commenting on the level of simplicity, I think he was making a judgement about human romance! After all, tales of people falling in love and fucking everything up for everybody else have been around as long as the human race has. We are missing a lot of the balancing ideals that need to exist to even out our relationships.
The perfect human relationship would provide passion and love (flushed), stability and support (pale), the desire and motivation to better yourself (ashen), and would help you deal with problems you can’t handle on your own (caliginous). (We also see aspects of auspisticism as a human concept when Jade helps Karkat reconcile his past and future selves.)
But, humans and trolls aren’t too different still. Whereas humans idealized one part of the romance, trolls instead created social conventions in order to deal with the problem. This is actually a common theme: need something in order for your species to survive and/or thrive? Make it into a social convention! The reason that their romance is so different is that somewhere down the line, they decided not to deregulate romance like humans did, but rather to create a very specific series of rules in order to allow all these pieces to exist!
I’m not going to make a call on which way is better. They both have their ups and downs, and human’s idea on romance are evolving rather quickly these days, but if you look at the core desires of both species in romance: to find your other half, to better yourself and grow closer to another person, and to find stability within yourself, we all want the same thing. We just have been taught to find it in different ways.

jesus tits guys
i got this like immediately when i started reading homestuck its kind of obvious
i dont get how a lot of people dont notice this
According toword of god, trolls can have varying sexualities, it’s just that being attracted to both seems to be the norm. However, many trolls seem to have a preference for one gender or the other, such as Sollux who prefers women or Gamzee who prefers men, which would make them bisexual, not pansexual. Also, the whole POINT of trolls being indifferent to gender when it comes to gender is so that they don’t HAVE labels for different sexualities, so by labeling all trolls pansexual, whether or not they actually are, is the complete opposite of the point.
Furthermore, Aranea states that humans default to heterosexual and trolls default to bisexual, making this just another culture thing. They also tend to be very aware of gender stereotypes, like Karkat telling Tavros not to play games for girls, the mostly female caste of the jadebloods, Porrim actively campaigning to fight negative stereotypes, and Karkat subconsciously understanding Slick’s commands to “man up”.
Now leprechauns are pansexual, to the point where we can’t even determine whether they have gender at all.
Well, if you’d like to get a head start before the meteor’s start raining down, let me lay it out in sort of a checklist.
1) Study the Aspects. Learn which one fits you best and which represents you the truest.
2) Ponder upon your worldview and how you see things. Write down some traits that typify you above all others. Get your friends to do the same. Collate all of these together and pick the few traits that come up the most.
3) Everyone has a little bit of all the Aspects, but one or two should ring truest. Take these and decide: which one of them really defines you? Furthermore, it should also be your greatest weakness and your greatest strength. This is your Aspect.
4) Then, figure out how you interact with that Aspect, and therefore the world. Are you active or passive? Do you understand, change, create, destroy, allocate, or equip your aspect? How do you alter the facts of things to your benefit?
5) Finally, combine the two together and consider the implications. If this is your Aspect, it will fit you at least to a certain degree, keeping in mind that it doesn’t necessarily have to match personality or anything. If its wrong, dial back a couple of steps and work towards your goal again. There are 168 total Classpects: getting it right on the first shot is rather rare.
And that’s how you get your Classpect. :) Just remember: your Classpect fits you, you don’t fit the Classpect!
nothing gets so bad, a whisper from your father couldn’t fix it

As far as the idea of someone choosing Mage because they think it makes then smarter they would almost definitely change to a different class after looking any deeper into the idea. Instead of focussing on the idea of understand as do Mage is work method.
You’ve got that a bit backwards. They don’t choose Mage because they think it makes them smarter, they choose Mage because they think they are smart, regardless of whether or not they are.
Now, I can choose Mage because I think I’m smart and still be a Mage. I just wouldn’t be one who’s understand comes from systems, so probably not a Mage of Doom, Blood, or Light.
The biggest problem comes from the subtlety between using information to guide yourself (which everyone does) and having your impact defined by the use of the information. Its like everyone is an computer and Mages/Seers are specialized for computation. Doesn’t make ‘em smarter, just means they analyze in a different way. :)
