Homestuck AU Idea
I have this really stupid idea for a Homestuck AU. It would be Quiznos/College, where all of them end up going to a local university and working at a Quiznos to try and make money for it. Karkat tends to be the boss of things, so I would probably have him be the main manager, acting really strict and stuff to keep this band of dysfunctional misfits from ripping the restaurant apart. Mostly it just involves shouting at people really loudly whenever they make a mistake, regardless of the circumstances. As a result, people have a bad tendency to ignore whatever advice he gives, because he really has no idea how to give it. He can tell you the perfect way to layer sauce on wheat, but it doesn’t matter because he’s spent forty five minutes trying to explain how to mop in an optimal fashion and you’ve given up trying to follow all of his commands. The other managers are John and Gamzee. John is the really chill one who wants to be silly all the time but can get to work when it needs to be done. Gamzee is kind of a stoner most of the time, so not much gets done when he’s the manger, but everyone loves him so much that he can’t get fired, even when corporate tries to come in to handle things. Terezi is their top employee, and one of only like three who got hired on actual skill instead of shenanigans. However, she has this nasty habit of mixing up random ingredients that smell too similar, which unfortunately happens to be most of the vegetables, so they keep her away from the wrap table. On occasion she also gets accused of harassing the customers, but can get away with it because everyone just claims she’s a “diversity hire” and they’ll “talk to her about it”. Bro is the actual owner of the story, but is totally terrible about it, so he just lets Karkat handle most everything, to the point where Karkat spends most of his time just trying to work out schedules, balancing budgets, and doing the actual work, when he really should be studying, but whenever a professor tries to mark him down he’ll just complain about it until he gets a higher grade. He does get paid really well for his work, so while he rarely does go out, when he does, he always has plenty of cash, which shocks his friends. Sollux also works there, but only really got the job because he’s Karkat’s best friend and holds a bunch of secrets over him. He’s a pretty decent employee, but the thing he’s really best at is the cash register, where hes the only person who can actually use all of the function on the register. He’s been considered for management before, but whenever Aradia comes in, he gets really distracted talking to her and once destroyed the toaster oven, at which point he had to sit through a 4 hour diatribe on proper safety by Karkat. It probably would have continued longer but Sollux threatend to wreck the register and Karkat had to back off, because that is something that he totally could and would do with little to no remorse. Tavros also works, as a disability hire mostly. He’s not a bad employee, but his own self-consciousness usually gets in the way and he ends up screwing everything over in a horrific manner. Vriska was going to get hired before corporate demanded a diversity hire and they picked up Tavros. He doesn’t know it, but Vriska is acutely aware and thus spends a lot of time being a really bad customer in the hopes that someday he’ll quit and she can have the job that she so justly deserves, usually by demanding “8 of every vegetable on my sandwich, and if anything spills I ned a new one.” They usually let Karkat handle her if they can. Dave and Rose work from time to time, but only when they’re really needed, because Dave can be a little snot and has absolutely no ability to work with customers whatsoever, and Rose just cannot make sandwiches fast enough on top of being an Honors student who just doesn’t have enough time to work very often. They used to have plenty of business, and they still get by even with the relatively largest staff, but its slowed down since the Subways across the street opened up, which is owned by Snowball and managed by Crowbar most of the time. This really doesn’t make Karkat happy, but most of the people are pretty chill, since the restaurant has this bad tendency to burn down every two weeks and also two really creepy guys can walk over with a voluptuous babe sometimes and just sniff the vent on the side of the building. There are rumors that corporate are the one who actually dress in dark clothes and do the job themselves, but the paperwork for legal issues in the town has been shut down every since one of their top workers got sent to prison, so its hard to say if it will ever work out or not.
So yeah, just a fun idea for an AU that I’ll stop talking about forever now.

I would be lying if I said that I am completely okay with the direction Homestuck has taken recently.
But I can’t help but hold out: I’m an eternal optimist, and some part of me believes that this is a tangible choice, that Hussie is doing this on purpose, and somehow this will bounce back and work together with everything else.
He’s always understood the literary tropes before. I don’t know. He had to understand what he was doing on some level. I hope he does, and that Act 6 Act 6 can put everything right.
