Avengers SBURB Roles

Alright, let’s GOOOOO!

Iron Man
Mage of Space

Space, for the uninitiated, is about more than just the physical distance, though Tony Stark certainly is pretty good with that, too. It’s also about substance and creation out of pieces. A Mage’s job is to use their understanding of their concept to good effect, and Tony can certainly do that. He flips and flies around expertly, using mechanical pieces to create his suits. He’s at his best when he’s out there doing these things on his own, using creative gambits involving distance and location to get shit done.

Captain America
Page of Hope

Proof that two people who are the same Role can be vastly different, Captain America functions as a fully realized Page of Hope. He started out very weak, true, but he always had Hope’s ideals: open-mindedness, optimism, and the ability to see all the options available to him. And as he grew, he began to inspire it in others, too: first with his group of comrades who were excellent soldiers and warriors once he became their leader, then when he was the Captain of the Avengers, thinking up all the options and using it to help the others get done what they needed. But more than that is what Captain America stands for and has always stood for is freedom and the ability to pursue your dreams. And his ability to inspire people to overcome their Rage and try and make that possible.

Hulk
Knight of Heart

This one is a bit more difficult. You see, the Hulk is actually composed of two different split personalities. Its a well-known disorder, he just happens to have one of these personalities be absolutely massive and green. A large part of his character arc is dealing with this alternate personality, and coming to terms with the fact that it’s just part of who he is. And, beyond that he needs to learn to use it. He was at his most effective right at the end, when he controlled his emotions and used it to wallop some bad guys.

Thor
Prince of Blood

(From a previous ask, mostly)  Thor has an intense dislike, almost hatred for decorum, and it reflects in his actions. When he attacked Jotunheim, he shattered a well-respected peace treaty. He also spurns the concept of working with the Avengers originally and focuses on doing his own thing, destroying any loyalty and bonds that could have existed. Beyond this, his true potential lies in the second part of this pact: Destroying THROUGH Blood. When it came time to defeat the Destroyer, he used the help of his friends in order to be able to defeat it, and it was when he was working with the Avengers, he was kick some serious robo-alien-ass. Finally, there are the instances of him destroying blood AND destroying through blood, such as him stopping Loki’s plan by destroying the Bifrost bridge.

Hawkeye

Fuck Hawkeye man. He’s got nothing.

Hawkeye
Mage of Time

ALRIGHT. But I don’t think you’ll like this one. Yes, he comes across as a Mage of Time, because that’s what Archery is all about. Careful aiming, careful planning, careful timing. And Hawkeye has all of that. He also is terribly smart when it comes to long term planning, using his arrows primarily to talk out critical targets that he knows will have a greater role if he lets them live. I’m not quite sure on this one, because I don’t know a whole lot about Hawkeye, but I’m going with Mage of Time.

Black Widow
Thief of Void

Black Widow can’t really afford to go straight to fighting. She’s a normal human, albeit very highly skilled, in a world of demigods and supermen. So she plays her tricks and does it well. In the opening scene of the Avengers, we see her playing a sneaky role and gaining information. She is, in essence, pulling this cloak to herself to obscure who she is and at the same time reveal the person she’s trying to get intel on. She does the same thing to Loki: by playing his game (submission is a part of Void) and convincing him that she is someone she decidedly is not, she is stealing his relative cloak of secrecy for himself. This is where she’s most effective: taking away the cloak of obscurity and removing the place to hide.

Nick Fury
Seer of Breath

There is a LOT of fusion between Breath and Blood, and this is key here. Nick Fury’s greatest ability is his skill at seeing what drives people: their direction, emotion, and passion. He can tell straight off how Tony Stark differs from the ludicrous playboy everyone else sees, knows Captain America’s motivations, and has the ability to recognize what Thor wants. He doesn’t actively go out there and fight the crime himself: that’s not his job. No, what he does is to give advice, and lead the team passively, sitting in the back, giving out the advice that is needed in order to help the game progress.

Bastion Title/Aspect Roles

For those not in the know, Homestuck has a complex layer of titles and aspects that designate how a person impacts and changes reality. One game I recently played that was excellent was Bastion, a game with four highly developed characters. I will assign each character a role an explain what makes them fit it. Spoilers are ahead, so beware.
